Nutrients went up after switching from shallow sand to BB?

Hey yall,
I changed tanks last weekend and went bare bottom in the new one. Before The move I never had a problem with nutrients (phos, nitrate). After the move I am getting some algae buildup, not too much but definitely noticeable. The only thing I changed was I did not put my old sand in and the tank has been sitting bare bottom until I get a chance to get new sand. I've tested for nutrients, but they are undetectable, of course that could be because of the algae. Also my glass is getting dirty much faster. Anyone have any ideas of why I am experience this? Could it be the bare bottom? I'm almost to the point I'm going to put my old sand back in. Its still in the old tank which is up and running. Maybe its new tank syndrome?? The rock is all my old rock and I used 75% of my old water. I did add 2 chromis during the move, but didn't think that would create a huge change to the bioload. Thanks for advice!

Give the bacteria time to stabilize again. Keep up good husbandry right now so it doesn't get out of hand. The sand holds I lot of bacteria and you just pulled it all out. May try to run a little Gfo for a while to keep algae from getting out of hand.

What about the 25% of new water? Tap? From an LFS? Or your own RO/DI unit? (( if this one, what is the TDS? ))

With that said, you are bound to have an algae outbreak or two after a tank move.

Probably just new tank adjusting. You could always keep bare bottom and maybe put sand in fuge to help if you like the bb look?

Goby(and wife) isn't digging the BB so will go back to shallow sand eventually I think. The 25% water change was of course same water I always use double distilled water and of course 0tds

as ritter stated when you went barebottom you took all the bacteria you had in your sand out and your tank needs time to stabalize and an algae outbreak is unavoidable

cool I put some gfo in a reactor for now until things settle down...it already seems to have slowed quite a bit in just a week
