Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should put in the middle spot in the back of my tank? I have a caddy and a pump and that's it.

There are protein skimmers that fit back there. Additionally you could add a filter sock in the first chamber and move the caddy to the second chamber. There are several IM AIO 10g builds in the member's build section that may also give you ideas.
