I plan on running a 25 lagoon frag tank. however the problem is that I do want to do it without fish, but that seems to be really difficult to do. if nutrients bottom out you'll have a lot of issues, and so I was wondering what would be the best stocking options for this tank? I am going to run it bare bottom with no live rock whatsoever. the two rear chambers are going to be filled with Sea Chem pond matrix what do you guys think?

I'm planning out a very similar build except I'll be using 12x 2"x2" marinepure cubes in the rear chambers. Im planning on putting a six line wrasse in mine, but that may necessitate some kind of rock structure for it to hide in

I dont think a single six line would provide enough nutrients

Why don’t you plan on lightly feeding frags with reefroids/chili or LPS pellets and just using regular water changes to make sure trace elements are replaces and N/P are removed?

I currently have one along with 2 picasso clownfish and a green clown goby in a 20 long and am currently battling nitrates around 40, but i also was doaing red sea ab+ aminos.

I think for this tank, a six line and an algae blenny would be about perfect. You get pest and algae control and you can always supplement aminos or reefroids/reef chili if you need more nutrients

I run a nuvo 10 with a purple fire fish and royal gramma filled with snails. I feed every other day, and feed reef ab+ everyday. My nitrates never go above 3 ppm. The tanks only filtration is 1 piece of filter floss that is replaced once a week, and a large amount of seachem matrix in the media basket. Also phosphate never goes above .05. I guess seachem matrix is no joke.

Oh yeah, matrix is fantastic stuff lol. I run my nuvo 10 with 2x 2x2 marinpure cubes and filter floss with a pink streaked wrasse with a bunch of snails. Fish is fed daily and it gets reef ab+ 2x a week. My nitrates are somewhere between 10 and 20. One of these days ill use my nyos kit instead of the api that I spot check with to get a specific number lol

See thats the problem. Im concerned with not having enough nutrients >.<

Totally understandable. I'd still start off with those 2 fish and see how the nutrients look. If they're not enough, you can either add a clownfish or two or you can dose potassium phosphate or potassium nitrate depending on which one you need. If you aren't comfortable making your own, you can always buy it from FishOfHex.com for about $50 for a gallon. a gallon of potassium nitrate will last you 5 years at the base dose of 2ml daily per 25g of water.
