Nuvo Fusion Refugium 1st Chamber

Anyone running a refugium in the first chamber of an IM Nuvo Fusion?

I've had one going for a few weeks with the IM ChaetoMax light, but the chaeto is brittle and after a week the part closest to the light has dark brown gunk all over it. Barely growing. Chaeto itself is still green.

I have a poly filter in the intank chamber 1 basket, followed by the chaeto, and another poly filter underneath so the chaeto bits don't get in the tank.

Is the first poly pad causing restricted flow? If I remove it, would there be a concern with detritus accumulating in the chaeto?

What are others doing?

I had no luck with it on the Fusion 20. I think it was just too small, and my tank too young.

In Sept I upgraded to a Fusion 40, and once a month I have to throw half the chaeto away. I'll try and remember to get some pics tomorrow.
