Nylon mesh and NoPox - Bacteria removal

Just an observation, but my Red Sea nylon mesh socks love to slime up with bacteria when running NoPox.

In fact, I have to change them too often.

Now I live the fact that between my skimmer and nylon sock I remove a lot of the bad bacteria.

I’m thinking about finding the mesh in a sheet form and hanging it in my sump to better collect and remove the bacterial slime, thus removing the waste.

Does this make sense to anyone and do you think it’s worth doing?

Let me add a little more to this.....

I get slime throughout my sump, in my skimmer, everywhere. But it grows super fast in the mesh.

So the thought is if the bacteria really likes the mesh, it may focus on it and be easily removed vs having to clean the slime out of my sump and the equipment.
 
I agree it is worth a shot just to see what happens. When I was dosing nopox, it liked to grow or accumulate in many places. Especially inside the return piping. I had to put mesh socks over my return outlets whenever I restarted my pumps after a water change. Any unexpected power blips resulted in a nasty mess in the tank. So if you can find a way of controlling where it grows, it will be a big plus.
 
If I only had a factory...

This screams for a solution. We already have algae scrubbers. I wonder if it would be feasible to have a nopox-based bacterial scrubber. Like, a media reactor into which nopox is dosed and which has some porous media (mesh rags?) to facilitate bacterial growth followed by bacterial export. Sure, nopox and bacteria would leach, but a high growth focused area might reduce the spread outside the reactor. Plumb into the protein skimmer just like biopellets, and you might have a sort of scrubbable biopellet-like system.

Yes, I get the same thing.

I am planning on replacing all my flex tubing and cleaning out the hard piping over Christmas break.

I’ll post any progress here. Gotta try and find the mesh somewhere.

YES! Let’s see what we can do here! I’m up for thoughts and ideas.
 
Thought about this more. My bacterial family likes to create snot globs in the initial stage of the CPR hob overflow and in other areas that are not stagnant but rather heavy flow. Smallish maybe 1/2 inch areas. Also in same section of my Trigger sump right before the return section. This made me think of baffles used for catching grease in an above stove vent.

What about an acryllic baffle with a removable side, with very porus foam (like that for the trogger sump) in several stages? You could tun this until flow is restricted, take off the side panel, slide out the foam, rinse with a strong blast of a garden hose, and replace. You would miss enough to seed new bacteria while exporting snot.
