I am having a hard time finding a lot of information regarding fine tuning these skimmers. Currently I am having issues raising the level in the skimmer body high enough to skim. The three adjustment methods do not seem to make much of a difference. I was able to finally get it to raise to the bottom of the cup but I had to almost entirely close the main adjustment tube which I am sure throttles performance (since that controls how much water is released back into the sump from the skimmer). Anybody else using these skimmers?

I dont have that skimmer but whats your water level? maybe you need to raise or lower your water level? did you do a google search? I did a search and found some people with the same issue. try this

Yeah, I read that thread also. Unfortunately I am sitting at exactly 8 inches (using eggcrate) which is what NYOS recommends.

So you have the skimmer in 8" water, the air is fully open and you have closed the water output valve all the way, and it still won't skim? How long have you been running the skimmer?

Correct....it was in 8" of water, the main control tube as well as the micro adjustment dial were both 90% closed (to hold water in the skimmer, allowing it to raise), and air was partially closed (increasing the air on this model of skimmer actually reduces water level). That would put the water level at the bottom of the cup but at a reduced performance I am assuming since "skimmed" water isn't leaving the skimmer as quick as it should be. I did end up removing my skimmer stand which now puts the skimmer in 10" of water.....that raised the water level about the 2 inch difference which allowed me to open up the water control a little bit but it still isn't acting like it should. I have been running the skimmer for roughly 5 days now.

Mines about 1/4 of the cup and water level is 8 1/2". Skimming pretty good for me.

Well if its only 5 days old it may be breaking in. I have heard the nyos may take up to two weeks to work out all the oils and build up a foam head. If you leave it in 8", full air and just let her go for another week I bet it breaks in and starts skimming. If the top of the foam head is soda fizz its breaking in : )

Where is your main control tube set to? Do you have the opening at the bottom facing the pump or is it turned to the side?

I would say you are probably right but it is skimming now....just not high enough due to the lower water level (it is forming skimmate all along the neck). I have never had a skimmer where I could not raise the water level...usually it is the opposite.

Breaking in. I have a 160 sitting in exactly 9 inches of water, air adjustment is open, skims extremely well. I added PH recently, that didn't make a difference, skims nicely.

How old is the tank? What is the Bioload like? What were you using before the Nyos?
Tank is about 16 months old. I was using a Reef Octopus 110 prior to the Nyos. Tank is a 105 gallon, moderately stocked mixed reef.

check this video at 05:48 point
Thanks for the video......I do understand how it is supposed to tune...mine just doesn't seem to be responding like it should. The main tube that he first turns is almost all the way closed on mine to the point that the skimmer isn't letting out much water to maintain the water height in the neck.

i see what you mean , i experience this before and after tuning the big tube , i let it sit for a few days and the water level raise by itself .

Skimmers brand new, then I would have to say give it some more time and if your bioload is not that high it will take a little longer to season it up. I have heard/read some else having similar issue and after waiting it did not get better. It ended up being the pump and he replaced it and all is well now.

Well I took it apart, ran a vinegar/water solution through it while watching the Cavs win :), and it seems to have fixed the issue. The controls adjust properly and the water level is where it is supposed to be.
