Nyos nitrate test kit changing color right after liquid.

Hey everyone. I got a new nyos nitrate kit. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly but I feel like in the past the liquid regent was clear. This one is yellow and changes my sample to about a 5ppm color b4 I even add the powder regent. I thought the last one never changed color until I added the powder. It's possible my nitrates increased around the same time I just wanna make sure this sounds right. Anyone else can confirm the liquid is yellow or not? Thanks!

I would say something isn't right with your kit. There shouldn't be any color change until you add both the liquid and the powder (and wait the 5 minutes). I'd suggest contacting the company (or whoever sold it to you).

FWIW....IMO...this is the most inaccurate and unreliable test kits for nitrates out of all the ones I have used. Red Sea and Salifert are the other ones; Salifert is the one I use most and correlates the best with ICP tests although that correlation may not have any merit.

Interesting. I've always had better luck with Nyos. Also it was close to ATI's ICP results.

I agree though that the initial 5 drops should not change the color at all. I ran a test just yesterday and it didn't start to change until after I added the powder, shook for 1 minute, and then I could see a tint. 5 minutes later it was a little different of course it depends on the amount of said nitrates.

Should note that I'm on the low side of nitrates so maybe it is different. Not sure but I'm around 0 to 3 ppm which I just started to dose and raise. So I can see change as I add or it reduces.

For quite some time (3 months?) I ran all 3 kits every day to compare them (Salifert, R.S. and Nyos). Many times the Nyos would consistently read 5 when the other 2 kits would agree with each other but their numbers would fluctuate together, up or down, while the Nyos always read 5.

I didn't think I was loosing my mind. And I was shocked my nitrates would go up that high in a week. I'll try one of the other test kits.
