Hi. I have been searching the internet up and down and found plenty of articles discussing issues with setting this skimmer up. Unfortunately are the results rather contradictory.

Nyos recommends a water height of 21cm. At that level i am not getting the water-foam boarder anywhere near the skimming cup.
Most users say they reduce the water height which would move the water-foam area even lower. I have been experimenting with this for 3 weeks now and the best results (if any) are when the skimmer is submerged even deeper. It should stand at about 24cm at the moment and i still have to close down the water outlet almost entirely.

Does anyone here have fail proof instructions on how this thing is ideally being set up? Would be much appreciated as else i’m going crazy.

I replaced my Tunze with this and love it. The 3-way adjustment is a bit tricky at first, but water levels do seem to affect mine a bit and adjustment is necessary from time to time. Especially right after a water change.

thanks! could you take a photo of your skimmer so i can get a rough understanding how you have set yours up?
i’m really wondering why the recommended depth is 21cm and everyone seems to get good results at 16cm whereas i have to submerge it in 25cm of water.

Maybe you have a low bioload
I set water line to 9”(~23cm)
Make sure your water level tube opening on the bottom facing toward the skimmer body

appreciate all your answers! you two are running the skimmer submerged in more than 21cm as well so at least i am not too far off with my observations.
if i have the bottom opening of the water level tube facing the skimmer body (full open) then the water/foam level will drop. i have it about half closed and the fine adjustment half closed as well.

I have mine at 9 inches also. I agree it’s probably the bioload. Is it a new tank? If you feed food like lrs it makes mine go crazy.

At9 inch’s you can close the nob until the bubbles hit the bottom of the skimmer neck.
