I just set this guy up, second hand so no instructions and there seems to be water in this water lefel control tube, is that normal or have I done something wrong?

should this be normal, any tips also for getting it breaking in?

I have the same( in quantum 160) in some settings but I'm not sure if it should works like that

So you’re saying that yours does fill with water in that area in some of the settints, but can’t say for sure if it’s supposed to?

Do you notice any adverse affects from it, or does it still work okay?

I've had this skimmer for 2 years so it's propably fine. It doesn't have any effect on work of skimmer but between this 2 tubes grow algeas( I have it near refugium with light) and it's very hard to clean and just doesn't look nice.

That makes sense. I have mine the same, the light from the refugium shines on it so I imagine I'll have the same issue. Right now, it's just foaming like crazy with really wet skimmate and I'm struggling to tune it in.

For me this skimmer is very hard to tune in. Only after a year I realized that I can turn pipe to change the water flow:rolling-on-the-floor-laughing::rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: But I still like this skimmer.

Lol thankfully I was told about turning the pipe.

I currently have the pipe turned so that the hole is facing inside the skimmer, and everything else opened all the way. Maximum air and maximum water - I do not know if that is the best thing to do, but it is overflowing my collection cup.

I'm betting from your coral stock that you don't have such high nutrients and phosphates? If not, maybe you need to think about some stand? I have 50 gallon tank with Nyos quantum 160 and it isn't to big for my tank, so i guess your skimmer has a lot of work in your tank so maybe it must be higher to produce drier foam.

I'm not sure it's supposed to have water in it. I only noticed the water in the line when I increased the water level in the chamber. Do you have it set at the recommended height? I do not like this skimmer, I regret buying it at the price I did not realizing that there's better options out there. At least I have a 5 year warranty I guess.

I do actually have fairly high nitrates at 50ppm currently so that's why I'm trying to get the skimmer going.

OK. Now this overflowing has a sense. If all valves you have opened and it doesn't help, I would raise this skimmer to the level in which you need to clean collection cup everyday but it's not overflowing.

Okay so you think it’s over skimming for the nitrates?

It’s acting like this now after 24 hours

Not literally. It shows the amount of organics in your tank. Can you measure how high is the water in your sump?

I can when I am home after work, I wouldn't want to say what it is without measuring but I think the last time I measured was something like 8 or 9 inches deep
