Nyos Quantum 160 or Reef Octopus Regal 150 INT??

Hi All,
I'm Upgrading! Finally going to a "big boy tank" aka 100g custom (48x24x20), up from my cobalt 45 AIO. That being said, working on preparing an equipment list, everything is pretty straight forward when it comes to return pumps, power heads, lights, etc. BUT there are a ton of different skimmers and a bunch of different price points. I think I've got it narrowed down to the Nyos 160 or the Regal 150INT (although I could be persuaded to go a different rout.) So I am looking for opinions, experiences, thoughts about skimmer options. I prefer an as close to silent tank as possible, but that's just one factor when it comes to choosing a skimmer.

I went through similar and ended up coinflipping to the Nyos. It is silent, easy to clean, and maintain. The downsides is that it has been known to overflow the cup for "unknown" reasons and the knobs for airflow will move from vibration.

I have the nyos 160 & it's main issue is a problem with the pump, after running for awhile the tend to not start back up with the air bubbles, I have mine replaced for times. they did it with no cost to me & the lastpump started the same thing after stopping it the 1st time. I would go with the Regal.

I never ran Regal. I had a Vertex for years that was a solid performer. Pump died and couldn’t locate a replacement. I have the Nyos 160 since they first came out. For the first few years I had all sorts of problems getting it tuned. I gave up and used it as a aeration device.

I finally put in some time and got it tuned in. Now it’s a workhorse. The good is that is dead silent. It pulls enough to fill the cup every few days. Mine has never had pump issues luckily. (May be due to the fact I’ve only taken apart to clean 4 times in at least 4 years. But, I’ve run into overflow a few times

Either way u can’t go wrong.

I’ve been planning a similar sized tank and have been looking at the Bubble Magus Curve 7 Elite with Sicce pump. I see all good feedback, though the DC pump of the RO Regal is appealing.

Thank you all for your insight, looks like I'm leaning Regal. I like the Nyos for the aesthetic they have, just not a fan of RO's red and white color scheme...
As for a build thread, yes I'll do my best, but once things are up and running I guess I have a hard time keeping y'all updated. I used to have the build thread contributor tag, but I guess they take it away if you don't update it lol.
So I guess be on the lookout for a new thread in the coming weeks, once the tank comes in. This will be my first time doing plumbing, a sump, etc. should be an adventure!

When it becomes a coin toss you can factor in the cost of the impellers, availability of parts, if the builder quicks making that skimmer parts again. Cost of pumps, skimmer body parts. I know that Aqua Maxx has that. What depth is your sump?

I had the Nyos for a few months, I switched to the Reef Octopus Regal. What a difference. That is a power house with the controllable DC pump.

my sump depth is adjustable from 6-10 inches
