I am looking at the Red Sea RSK-300 and the Nyos Quantum 160. Has anyone tried both? Is the Nyos really worth an additional $200? Is it really going to skim any better? Any quieter?

Been running the nyos 160 for a year now on my reefer 350, great skimmer, very quiet, easy to dial in. Don’t have any experience with the other one.

I bought the RSK300. I sent it back it was very loud. Maybe it was just mine but now have the Nyos 120. After getting it dialed in it’s quiet and works well for me. If I had to go again I would go with the Reef Octo.

Howdy,

Wanted to say hi and give my input. I have run the nyos 160 for years. I agree w everything Brad said except the dial in. (But that was just my experience)

I was running a Vertex prior so I may be spoiled. The Nyos build is on par with the vertex. My issue came in the adjustment. I ran it as an air pump for 2 years because I could never get it right. It was always overflowing or not producing bubbles. Since I have it figured out last couple years it is great. I am 100% Nyos fan now, just very annoying at the begging.

I like the Nyos because it is dead quiet, I like the pump is internal, and the body is abs. The Octo I hear is really good too..

Have you Nyos 160 owners experienced the pump start up issues that seem to be quite a prevalent issue specific to the 160s? See HERE.

I ran a NYOS160 for about 5 years. It's a phenomenal skimmer. Expensive but easy to dial in and it pulls a lot of air for low wattage. Quiet too. It was too big for my sump so I down sized.

I would purchase a Nyos again with out a thought. They were/are easy to adjust, very quiet, easy to dismantle to clean. That is a biggie, easy to clean.

no, but I never clean my stuff :) . I can honestly say the pump has never been out of the housing for cleaning more than 3 times in 4 to 5 years. Every time I shut down for normal maintenance it starts right back up

Isn’t the Nyos 120 equivalent to the RSK300?
Price is a lot closer that $200
