it feels like no matter what i touch the skimmer just keeps overflowing.
Please help!

ok now the water is here but with no bubbles. and its making constant super loud humm sound and screeches

Water level looks high.

Clean the cup out, manually submerge, 4" 5" 6" etc.

Your arms are gonna get a workout.
yes the water level is too high anything i can use to raise the skimmer? Also making a really annoying humm sound

I used some Tupperware to raise my skimmer.

Hated my Nyos 160. It'd work great for 2-3 months and then randomly start overflowing.

Most plastic that you can readily obtain will be safe.

An established reef tank is pretty hardy.

Amazon sells acrylic display boxes for pretty cheap. You can use them to add height. Or get an adjustable skimmer stand.

You may need to manually hold the skimmer to get a estimate of water depth.

As for the noise open up the air intake all the way. Then fine tune

Hope this helps.

thank you i think this will help are you sure openning up the air intake will help? the sound is a constant humming sound with occasional screeching maybe smth to do with the pump?. And when you say the air intake do you mean the small adjustment next to the one labelled open and close?

If I am understanding your skimmer:

You should have a "gate valve" for water height.

Second: looks like it has a adjustable air intake valve on the "Muffler".

#1- open your gate valve all the way. Water level inside the skimmer should drop.

#2- open thr air intake valve all the way. Even better would be to take it all the way off.

Fine tune the water height first. Then you can adjust the air intake.

If you starve the pump from getting the right ammount of air flow it will become noisy.

Alright thank you imma give it a try im just concerned the noise is a pump issue and not the air intake

Well im honest...
I started with a used nyos quantum.. avfter a while that thing became very noisy - i mean it was like a humming noise like vibrations and you could hear that very good.

OK, I bought a brand new one...
after a few weeks it did the same freaking humming noise... I smashed that thing almost and was really angry.
Every few week it starts to do that and I am done with Nyos.

Its the air intake. As per @BOYERZ above

The water level needs to be correct otherwise it will overflow (use a stand if you need to)and the noise is because you have the air intake closed

So set the water level, open the air intake, ideally wide open, and then adjust the main control value

I have the Nyos 160 and 300 and they are relatively quiet, other than a slight humming

No,I will just replace it.
Right now its quite again.. but I dont know for how long.
And you dont wanna know how many times I smashed that thing already HAHA
Interesting, have you contacted nyos as if the noise isnt constant there is something bothering the pump sometimes maybe they can help
