Just saw these NYOS Aquatics GmbH but have never heard of the brand, does anyone have experience with them? Its about time I got a better set of kits and figured I would at least research these some.

I've not heard of them before.

Reading through the descriptions, other than them saying they are good, I didn't see anything to particularly demonstrate that fact.

There are some weird wording issues, but that may just be a translation issue.
Example: "High sensitivity seawater calcium test kit for strong exposure." Strong exposure means what???[h=3][/h]

So for Alk, nitrate and phosphate which kits do you recommend?

Good to hear, I trust Ecotech so I doubt they would sell a crappy brand.

lol, click the link.. it's a reefbuilders article. nested in the article is other articles about nyos.

they are apparently a german small-batch high quality test kit..

the boxes look like packaging for feminine products

Haha I read the article and might try them out. Well the boxes could lead to some...uh awkward talks

As it stands right now, nobody is importing them to the US and it is quite difficult to find an overseas distributer that will sell to the US. I am currently looking for Ca and Mg test kits and have been searching the past couple of days after coming across Nyos. It appears to be easier to discern the colors and the change compared to comments from others (I have no experience with any Ca or Mg test kits, so this is based solely on comments from others and the video of the Nyos kits). I may try contacting a few online Distributers tomorrow morning or later tonight when they are open to see if they will ship over seas.

I just got an email from my friend at the LFS.. said they are really nice and very accurate. I might have to stop in and get a set and get rid of the API set I am using.

Well there goes my brilliant idea about contacting them tomorrow to see about importing their products into the US along with a few outer European products we can't seem to get over here.

Thanks for the heads up.

did you click my link? Ecotech is importing them

I did check the Ecotech website, but there was no indication or mention of the Nyos products. I just purchased through SaltwaterAquarium.com, I am liking the current exchange rates. $20 each for 50+ tests of Ca and Mg is pretty good. I'll see in a couple of days if they are as good as the claims. I just need to get ahold of some standards or bring some samples to some local stores to see if they will test so I can compare those reading to the Nyos. Maybe I can get a couple of my club members to verify readings for me. As Randy stated, the reviews so far are basically just on ease of use, nothing substantial. No verification of accuracy or consistency between readings on the same sample. Just one time trials in passing at trade shows.

Randy Holmes-Farley, would it be possible to get or make a standard for me to test with these kits when they come in? I am actually not to far from you (relatively speaking) and may actually start traveling into Boston on a somewhat regular basis. It may be possible to get these kits, Ca and Mg anyway, into your hands to get your opinion on them. It would be great if we had a $20 kit that was reasonably accurate, consistent, and easy to perform and read.

Anyone besides me believe in supporting your local LFS? What about supporting the U.S.? Why would you knowingly want to give your hard earned dollars to another country, when we have perfectly accurate products right here? I don't get it. Their prices aren't even competitive.

$42 dollars plus tax is not quite competitive with $20 plus a few dollars shipping. I don't have the kind of money to just hand the LFS a bunch of cash for existing. I'm all for supporting the local guy, but sometimes it is a bit difficult to justify the price difference or the drive required to get there. I try to support them when I can.
Although I did just give them $100 for three frags that I apparently could have got from a local reefer for less than $30, which would have been over three times the size of what I got, without what appears to be AEFW on one of the frags.

I've had people tell me the Salifert was difficult to see the colors, it is too faint. I haven't seen anybody carry them around me.

My LFS can order them for me, so if I got them I would be supporting my LFS. Also which tests are made in the US?

Also as far as cost, Red Sea ($100), Salifert ($100) and NYOS ($104) are all about the same price for the standard tests (PO4, NO3, Alk, Ca and Mg)

I would if my LFS was worth a darn.. there are some really nice ones about 2hrs away and I support them when I can, but I'm not driving 2hrs each way every time I need something.

I believe in free market as much as I do patriotism. two equal products at the same price I'd pick the american made, but that's not the case. german made aquarium stuff is many times about the best quality you're going to get, and if they are cheaper that makes it even more likely I'd buy it.

that said, I'm not buying these test kits (I don't even use the ones I have).

THANKS! Shipped. Threw in FREE 2 DAY Shipping, hope you mention us in your review. The test look very nice, just ran nitrate & phosphate on one of my tanks, worked very well, easier to read then API for sure and Salifert.
