To slow down ;Stop and cycle the right way.

And get an QT, tank.

If the screen is cotton, then ironically it will grow very fast until it starts dissolving in about 6 months. So the plastic 7-point is better long term.

The loops probably won't help, but will sure make harvesting more difficult. I'd cut them open.

Ramping the lights does not matter to algae. 18 on, 6 off, is fine.

Yeah,
Dose an ammonia source.

Then test and watch your ammonia go sky high and drop to zero.
Test for nitrites and they should go up and bottom out too.
Then you should be only able to detect nitrates.

At that time it's cycled, but not an real mature reef, that takes time too.

@SantaMonica It almost has a layer of soft roughed up carpet. I frayed the ends of the nylon and rubbed the algae from the cotton all over the plastic.

@GoVols I will most certainly consider this method if I re-start. Btw, if it came to a re-start I have been leaning toward BB, too.

There is appx 4" to the right of the 10-gal aquarium sump (autocorrect wants to keep saying "dump") for the Aquamaxx 1.5.

I thought the 5-gal glass tank I was using as a sump was 10-gal. Today [once I realized I was only using 5] I upgraded to a 10-gal. I kept wondering why it see seemed I could go bigger but 20-gal wouldn't fit!

Need. More. Space.
