Hi, I ordered a custom oak stand from my LFS. I received it yesterday and there was something that bothered me.

The 3/4 oak studs came down on a half inch OSB board. My concern is that the on the sides, the studs only touch the board halfway. Front and back its fine but both sides look like this. Please see pic.

I was thinking of gluing in some 1/2 plywood in the space to be on the safe side. Please let me know what you think. Thanks

Not the best practices but, if you concerned you can take it back or fill it.

Thanks. Why do they do this? I can't take it back. It was custom built for me.

another option is to pull the OSB out and cut or have cut a properly sized piece for that space.
lowe's and homedepot will do it for free + the price of a sheet of OSB.

truthfully they either don't care or it was an oversight, no real way of knowing.

Thats not a bad idea....I just didn't want to have to fool around with something I paid so much for.....it also concerns me what else is wrong if it was made like this.

what size tank will be sitting on it?

the other thing I just noticed is it doesn't have rear vertical supports...
that's very concerning to me.

can you take a full front and back picture and post it?

So, what is the stand's frame made out of? Is the top and vertical back supports made out of 1x2 boards?

The bottom looks like particle board. That would concern me because if/when it gets wet it will swell.

In my experience, the weight of the tank should be supported on at least a 2x4 frame. And the wood sides and front should be for looks only, not structure (well it will keep it from twisting some, but not support the weight of the tank).

The frame is 3/4 inch oak studs about 3 inches wide. The bottom is OSB. Most commercial stands IE Marineland are made similarly. I'm not too concerned about the water as that is an issue with almost any wood.

Take it back, and demand a refund. Get a real cabinet maker to build a good quality stand instead of a cheap kitchen cabinet with cheap chip board. The outside case work is nice but the insides construction I would not trust.

Woudent trust it as a bed frame. Here is how u frame a aquarium. Take it back and get someone elese to make it. That's s insurance claims waiting to happen

∆ are you guys speaking from experience? Can someone with experience jump in? I'm really not all that concerned with the stand holding weight. Most commercial stands are made very similar and are tested to withstand way more than what we put on them. IMO most homemade stands are way overbuilt and thats fine. You have to remember that the weight is spread out over the whole stand.

If the stand is level it all comes down to PSI.

This will be holding a 180. It does have rear vertical supports....I will take a pic tomorrow.

True, but with the way that stand is build, if any side load of if anything shifts, Thoes pocket screw will come undone and that stand will / over I understand it can hold the weight. The problem is weight+ movement, plus time. If your sure it will hold it fill it and go, no there shouldn't be a gap, no it should not hang over ½, yes it is ****** craftsmanship becuase they didn't build it true and that's what they did to square it up for eye pleasure. But do u want to trust a 4k setup to a stand you apparently are questioning?

Lol. That's why I'm asking....but I'm not really too concerned about anything coming loose

I believe it's all just for eye candy and that's why it's off becuase of a boo-boo but but Idk I won't say ya or no. Lol good luck!
