I just re-established my tank and having minor problems. The water level in my overflow won’t stay consistent. It goes down below the intake and then fills up again. It’s a bit irritating as it is very noisy. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Mike

Any pictures of your Set up for reference?

That kind of 'flushing' almost always means you are putting too much water through the overflow. Essentially, the durso is alternating between operating as a siphon (where it can move more water) and an open channel (where it moves less water) - thus the up and down.

Thanks. So if I adjust the sump return pump, I would be slowing down the amount of water that is forced into the overflow- correct?

This may work but to be sure some pictures of the plumbing in the overflow and under the tank would make it easier to give you a definite answer and solution.

Or use bigger pipes to handle more flow

Are you using sch 40

I use 40 for the pressure lines and thinwall for the drains

Thinwall has slightly larger internal diameter and they move more water

Correct. Either reduce the flow or increase the capacity of the drain.

Perfect. Thanks everyone. The slowing the flow worked perfectly.

glad that worked, but how much did you slow it down.... flow is your friend... personally i would have gone bigger drain pipes..

i had a slight flushing sound with mine and i put a 1" to 1.5" union and to thin wall PVC the flushing almost went away... after a couple weeks it totally stopped... i assume the pipes got some organic matter or "slime" and everything has been silent since

Well. It hasn’t totally changed it. I am getting full water level in one section of my sump, but the section with return pump tends to be much lower, not sure why they aren’t even.
