Occasionally I see forum members referring to "OC line".

Can someone tell me what that is referring to... I would think they are referring to output lines feeding back to the main display tank but not really sure if that's the case.

If this is in reference to corals, I have heard a few people use the acronym OC to refer to Original Collector when dealing with named lineages of certain coral.

I think you may be referring to LOC line. It's mostly used on return plumbing and is a 'flexible' type line so can be adjusted to your needs.

Yes..OC = open channel....just a straight tube in the overflow...no fittings on top...used as the last emergency drain for redundancy...

Correction...the Open channel is not the emergency drain...it's the one with the air line tubing--this normally has a trickle, but if the main siphon gets clogged the water level will rise up in the overflow and the airline will eventually be underwater causing the open channel to create a siphon and keep the tank from overflowing......I'm not sure what the guy in the post above was talking about

Open channelise a drain tube that allows both water and air to enter. a full siphon is just water, and is much more efficient. open channels can handle low water flow and can be noisy due to the air entering it.
