Occ_motorcycles 2.5 nano build

to my understanding is like some kind of balls that are really porous and can hold beneficial bacteria copepods with less space so we can have less live rock especially in such a samll tank where adding a single rock seems humungous jaja

I believe there are various kinds and one is called Bio-Spheres I think, and there is a Bio-Stars also on the market ... hopefully they sell them in PR ..

Yes exactly like that.

after all the comments on the "tank clear" I am posting a close up photo of them.

Hope these help.

I am also Goin to the lfs Tuesday to get more so I will take photos of the packages and logos for others to find.

Ok I got two options. First. I can go to the store and upfront the cost and y'all PayPal me the cost +shipping and a very small amount to make the gas back and ill ship it to y'all. That's the first option.

(Not sure what rules r2r has on this but I am ok with it. )

Second option is these from bulk reef supply. Same concept but more expensive. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/marinepure-ceramic-biomedia-1-1-2-spheres.html

Yeah. The exact product I used I can only find at the lfs and not online. Thanks for finding similar products.

They allow for using less LR but one has to have space to put them and if one does not have a sump, HOB filters usually do not have much space for them but I have seen Hobbyists hiding them behind live rock or gluing them to the back of it. Of course less rock can make it more difficult to place corals in the tank but there are ways around that too by using rock that has ledges

There are also creative ways like using acrylic to put corals on. And as long as the pellets has water moving across or around them they will work.

I am sure that a hob filter packed with those would do fine for biological filtration but not sure how you would do a physical filter. Maybe toss te pellets behind a carbon filter pad?!

As many people try different things I am sure you could find a place to stick them.

The HOB would work well filled with them but you would IME first need to put some mech filtration so the stars or spheres don't get clogged with detritus. Most HOB's can hold floss before the water goes into the next compartments and that would IMO prevent detritus and slime build up on the bio media used. FWIW

So I have tried a few different things to help remover the diatoms and now it's making me think its not diatoms.

Diatoms usually will go away if left alone and this is just getting thicker.

Also tey need food or nutrients to grow. I added a new tank to my 40b and so the current water volume is about 100g. And still kicking away.

Also I raised my light 5 inches above what it was an still going.

I have added prodivia products. (Bacteria that helps remove cyno and still kicking.

My last resort is to use red slime remover.

Anyone have another idea?

Looks like dinoflagellates to me and not diatoms IMO. You should be able to siphon them out and see if you can get rid of them that way and with water changes and lowering your nutrient levels.

If that does not work then ChemiClean may be the only way to get it taken care of IMO ...

I am gonna do a cyno dose after I siphon. The does wont hurt anything and should be fine to do.

Update on the tank. Still running and doing good.

The little acan that was added is doing well opening and all.

I am considering adding a leather or something else.

Anyone have ideas? I would like to keep it cheap but am open for ideas.

Also look at my photo album of current corals and let me know what y'all think of them and if I should add any to the 2.5

Not sure if I understand you correctly but before adding anything I would get the tank cleaned up completely and get rid of whatever is growing whether they are dinos or slime algae or diatoms or a combination of all of them.

Now if you are looking for what you could add after the tank is back to normal :

- Duncan
- Candy Cane
- Pavona
- Cabbage Leather

Would IMO be good choices and not expensive FWIW

Ok better update then.

I want to add to the 2.5 gallon. The issues I was having were in my 40b show tank.

This is the 40b today.

And this is the 2.5 today

Both looking alot better.

So I want to move from my 40(photos in album) to the 2.5
