I have an Oceanic 150 trickle filter that I was thinking about gutting and using as a sump/refugium. It's about 32" x 12" x 18" and works out to right around 30 gallons. It uses an external pump so I could make the return section a little smaller. Does this sound feasible? I know bigger is better when it comes to sumps but it's a nice tank and I don't know what else to do with it.

You can use it, just don't remove any structural pieces. do you have a photo? I can point out what is safe to remove and what isn't.

I've actually decided to go a different route. I'm on kind of a tight timeline to get my tank set up so instead of messing around building a sump, I bought an Eshopps refugium. Besides, the tank from the filter is a bit tall and it would have been a pain to service anything inside.
