I'm currently re sealing a 175 gallon bowfront I picked up on craigslist. The build date is March 9, 2005. The silicone was yellowish. I've removed all the silicone and overflows. Looking on advice to re seal. I would like to buy ge door and window #1. Should I just reseal it or am I supposed to separate the entire tank and rebuild?

Not necessarily, I have the painters tape and my tank is all cleared out. I was more looking on specific advice for a 100+ gallon and advice on what hardware store silicone to use, specificly, considering there's 100s of 100% silicone to use. But not all are to standard. Also I've heard that you should separate the tank and re adhesive the tank back together and then re seal it with silicone. Or if I could just reseal it considering my specific tank is only 12 years old. But it leaks out of the bottom right of the bow. I understand the concept of just buying aquarium silicone but why pay 3x the money for the exact silicone I could buy for 3x less the money. I assume I'm right about the door and window ge#1 but I was hoping someone with a reef tank that has re sealed with ge#1 with their tank running more than just a few weeks could input some advice

I've done 2 reseals on smaller tanks. The results of the latest is still pending (curing). The silicone between the glass is where the seams are. This is silicone is structural and holds the tank together. Check these for large bubbles, or widespread small bubbles or white areas or areas without silicone. There will be flaws, but if things are good overall, there's no need to tear apart the tank and do a rebuild.

The seals are the silicone which waterproofs the tank rather than glues it together. This is what you remove without taking the tank apart.

I've read from experienced tank builders that there are quality differences in silicone. Based on the time and effort it takes me to reseal a tank, I use only special purpose aquarium silicone (ASI brand). I buy it online for about the same price as regular GE silicone, and I can choose between black and clear.
