Wondering if anyone still runs the ocean motions devices. I just bought an 8' long peninsula tank and really don't want pumps stuck to the sides, maybe a gyre on the overflow end but clearly not enough for the tank. Have these fallen out oor something? I ran the squirt and 4 way a decade or two ago, but why are they not getting mentioned much today? Thanks

Gyre in wave mode
Thanks I'll have to look some more, but the initial threads I saw were talking about some ugly dead spots when trying those pumps on a tank this long or too much flow for corals right in front of them. They are awesome in my 40G and 120 with each on an end but, to go 8 foot in a 300g and work on an SPS tank seemed to be a negative for a single or single side pump even with 2. I'll have to research some more I suppose.

OM devices work well. I’ve run one on my closed loop for a number of years. Trouble is that closed loops have rather fallen out of favor, OM along with them. Is OM still in business I wonder.

I still think closed loops have their niche. If you need to push flow a long way, the list of powerheads is very short. If you need to push flow a long way and not spend silly $$ then the list of power heads = 0.

MP60 is my all time favorite pump, but it’s not going to travel that far. Hydrowizard ECM 63 will, but it’s $2K.

Yep you can still purchase the OM devices. So is the info as I had suspected incorrect above saying the gyre pumps can do it in a 8' peninsula ? Every thread I seemed to find here or on the other site, seemed to say it wouldn't do it unless you had them on opposite ends. I only returned to the hobby in the last 2 years, and have only used the smaller ones. Thanks

I have not used any of the gyre pumps, but my sense is that they essentially establish a slow, circular flow along the top and then back along the bottom of the tank. Not my idea of reef flow LOL. I have an eight foot tank, but not a peninsula, so I can use MP60 on both ends that meet in the middle.

That imo would be the perfect setup I could deal with the wires to the corner and hidden down, but my wife wants it to be completely clean, so it seems like I will have to add a CL of some sort, or get some real life feedback on the large grye type pump.

@Scratch08 runs an OM currently. I had a hard time getting ahold of them when I last tried contacting them so I'd be a little hesitant about that portion.

I run a closed loop on my peninsula using two Vectra M2's and no OM. Obviously you could step up to a much more serious pump to achieve better flow rates

It has been about a year since I reached out to them for a replacement drum for a squirt, but the response then was super fast. Thanks for your thoughts, do you have an opinion on if CL is the way to go or if pumps from one side can really do that kinda push pull back?

Personally, I have no experience with that length of tank so I can't say for sure. I do know that even with a closed loop the amount of flow you'll need to span that distance could still pose problems

Mine is currently powered off and valved off...using gyres until I can either get replacement parts or figure out a new layout for the closed loop. My wet side magnet appears to have had water infiltrate the inside and caused magnets to swell/explode, busting the encapsulator. I'm going to reach out to OM on Monday to see if I can get the parts to repair.
As far as moving water in your 8 footer... I would continue to lean towards a closed loop of some sort to do the job. If the OM is a no go, something like @JoshH 's multi pump set up would work well, and is probably what I will go to if I can't repair my OM...just have to re-plumb most everything under my tank. ;Facepalm
