Today I found my clownfish working together to fiercely defend an area of the tank. They were tailwhipping sand at a hermit crab and at one point the female picked the HC up with her mouth and moved it away from the area.

It is towards the back of my rock work so I cannot get a good view of the area but I did notice a 1/8" white haze around the rock.

Is it possible they laid eggs on the back of this rock?

I do find the pair in this area of the tank at night and have for a long time but they regularly explore the whole tank.

I don't see any eggs in the pictures, but they will defend their territory.

I don't see eggs either just wondering if there would be some kind of bacteria cloud surrounding them that I am seeing. Or if adolescent clowns leave something like that before they are actually able to lay eggs?

Mine have always just found a smooth surface to lay them on. I haven't read that they deposit any mucus layer to the surface prior to laying them.

Thank you. I wonder what that bacteria is all about? It is not showing up anywhere else.

Typical clown behavior; looks like bacteria. I see it in my tank in low flow, low light areas. I wouldnt worry about bacteria unless it becomes an obvious eye sore or invasive

Cool thanks guys! Maybe that's why my hermit crabs have been disappearing lol
