Let me start with a little background. I have a 55 gallon quarantine tank with 3 yellow tangs, purple tang, majestic foxface, blonde naso, and the late red sea sailfin. I do frequent water changes and had them for 8 days now. All where doing great and strong eaters with the exception of the naso that doesn't eat much. The other day the sailfin stopped eating but showed no signs of any issues. My girlfriend checked them and all were swimming and acting normal. She goes to the lfs to get food and comes back to the sailfin suddenly dead. Weird thing is the tang is really dark with a white spot on one side. Could he have been stung? I did lose a Achilles before i got home from it getting stung. Any thoughts on this? I might get ride of it do to fear of my shark getting stung.

I wouldn't expect the sting from a Foxface to be fatal but I guess its possible.

Do you have thoughts on this, @melypr1985 ?

Gram-negative infection maybe? That could kill pretty quickly...

How are the other fish behaving now?

I've never seen a fish die from a sting like that. I've seen swelling and possible infection though. Infection could set in and kill the fish so there's that and it could explain the white area on his side. Of course, the infection could have been caused by any number of other things other than a sting from the mag fox.

All the fish have been fine. Active and feeding. Even the sailfin was doing great then boom dead in under an hour. I just fed them and are all fine.
