Hello,

SORRY for such a long post, but here goes...

Curious if anyone has seen this sort of thing:

IMG_2808.PNG

It's difficult to see in an image... in the photo it LOOKS like just a reflection / glare from taking the photo, but it's not.

Both eyes have an extremely vibrant blueish glow/haze.

I don't THINK the fish is blind as it is a voracious eater and darts around during feeding to grab food.
It also does not swim cautiously or bump into things...

History:
I've had it for about two weeks+ now

- it was PAPER THIN when it arrived from an online retailer - I assumed it wouldn't live

- placed in a 20G isolation tank for observation (eyes were perfectly normal) as there was a single tiny white spot on the tail fin

- first day it was very timid and hid behind the PVC elbow

- second and third day(ish) it was eating ravenously and was perky

- it became very lethargic and, literally, would lie on the tank bottom and stopped eating

- white spot still present, but no increase in size and no new spots appeared

- after a week or so like this, I started dosing the tank with copper (over 3 days to 2ppm)

- over the next week, the fish looked basically dead. It would not eat anything and would "tumble/float" around the tank with the water flow/movement

- at one point I "knew" it was dead, so I used a long wooden skewer to fish it out, but when the stick touched it, it gave a very slight effort to move

- my wife, convinced it was simply depressed, begged me to put it in the DT to cheer it up, but I was firmly against it due to the white spec on the tail.

- I decided to investigate the white spec, so I reached in the tank and simply scooped it up. I wipe the tail fin with my thumb and the spec came off. I then plopped it back into the tank

- 50% water change

- next day, the fish was still pitiful and on death's door

- still no eating

- next day, 50 % water change and carbon in the HOB

-still no eating or improvement in actions

- NEXT day, wife demanded that it was depressed and to put it in the DT

- FINE! I reached in and scooped it out and put in a baggie and floated/added DT water to acclimate

- removed from the baggie and put in the DT and it swam down and into the rock work hidden away

- Next day... UNBELIEVABLY... it's a completely different fish. SUPER perky and zipping around BUT it's eyes still have this weird coloration.

- it's been a few days and it's now hanging out with the Blue Jaw and living it's best life ever... but those eyes!

THANKS for any observations

Okay... great news

I decided to just monitor the Orange Spot before rushing into anything.

I was at the short end of the tank (where I usually stand for feeding) and ALL of the fish, as usual, came to the end... except this time the Rabbitfish came right up against the glass to eyeball me... and it’s eyes were perfectly clear.

As soon as it moved away from the glass and back underneath the lights, the eyes were once again neon/ iridescent blue.

So... it looks as thought the lens of the eye is catching the light rays and causing the odd coloration.

Whew.
