I would be tempted if it didn't specifically say fresh water aquariums.

I would be INCREDIBLY leary about putting something like this in my aquarium. With water stability being a paramount concern/focus for the inhabitants of your aquarium, you have no idea what is going to fall off, be rinsed off, leak out of that thing into your aquarium.
