Not sure what this stuff is. I had it a little on my sand bed but primarily in high flow shade areas so I vacuumed it up. 2 days ago I changed my filter sock and see this. None really in the main tank.
What is this red string stuff on the filter sock?
My nitrates test 0 with the Nyos kit
Phosphates 0.1 with red sea
Only thing I can think of is I tried pellet food for a week instead of frozen that I had been feeding. When this showed up I went back to frozen only. Tank is 6 months old.

I guess I am a little confused about this, nutrients are low on testing, and this as well as the area of the sand bed it was is some of the least lighted and highest flow areas in the tank. Should I just suck it out and move on not caring or does this signify a change being needed in a 4 to 5 month old tank?

Cyano doesnt need a lot to grow, and in a new tank like yours, it's almost inevitable that it comes in.

I would suggest you clean it off the best you can, siphon, or remove it with a baster... as your bacteria populations fluctuate and eventually stabilize, you should see a lot less. If it doesnt go away, then do a 1/2 dose treatment of red slime remover, or just ignore it depending on where it is.
