Quick question on salt creep. Has anyone run a saltwater tank in a room with a tin ceiling? The best location in my home for a large tank is in our main living room which has 9 foot ceilings with an old fashioned tin ceiling. I am thinking of doing a custom stand (36" tall) and tank (28" tall) which would place the top of the tank at about 5'4" tall so maybe 3'8" away from the tin ceiling.

Do you guys foresee salt creep on that tin as a problem in this scenario?

I've never had issues like that. My tank is inside of a closet with a wall mount to my living room. I have exposed drywall and a very tight fit. I only ever notice it a few inches above the tank.

@Jekyl
Thanks for the reply - guessing from the lack of interest I'm betting there aren't a lot of people out there with tin ceilings.

My hunch is it won't be a problem - but at an old house where I had a FOWLR tank the floor air register behind the tank stand rusted pretty severely during a two year period. May have been splashing that did it though.

I don't think salt creep would be a issue I do think the higher humidity would be tho. You could negate it a bit with having air flow in the area but I recommend painting the tin at least

RUST

I have all my stuff plumbed into my basement.... about 15ft away from my AC/Furnace

The furnace rusted out and made my wife FURIOUS.

Ppl who say only pure water evaporates are full of crap, and don't know the truth.

Ended up building an airtight room around my sump making a 7x7ft fish room

Look out for RUST.
