I've got a new fishtank.

Well - it's new to me, anyway. Six feet long and two wide, it'll hold 220 gallons - which could add up to a pretty full sump in the event of the power going down!

Ideally, I'd like a 75gallon or so sump, but the stand that came with the tank may be getting in my way here. Literally. It's an Aqueon stand, and is neatly braced every two feet - front, back and top. I can see it being difficult to insert a four-foot sump - quite frankly, I can see it being difficult to insert a three-foot sump - between the braces. But could I get away with doing this? The top braces are just a couple of 1 x 4", which appear to be stapled to the tops of the side bracings inside the box. Could I possibly knock one of those out, set it aside and insert the sump into the stand through the resulting four-foot-ish opening, then re-attach (glue and nail) the bracing bar? Would that compromise the integrity of the stand? (Honestly, the stand seems remarkably flimsy to support a tonne of tank as it is!)

Hello Bruce, I had a similar issue as the one that you have. I removed the top brace and installed the sump reattaching the brace with glue and screws. It work for me just fine and held up while it was in use.

Needless to say, I can't remove it now, but it did work.
