My magnesium has been sitting around 1700 consistently for over a year in an 18 month old tank. Never added it once with the exception of its contents in my salt (used I.O prior to switching to Aquaforest earlier this year). Bought three test kits and have had same results. Tank and coral seem fine, but I’m curious if there is any potential danger here and if there is anyway to bring it down? Thanks much.

The magnesium is exactly reflecting what is in your salt mix at the salinity you are using.

Despite using 3 kits, magnesium may not be not as high as you think (it is unlikely those two mixes had such high magnesium at 35 ppt), or the salinity is much higher than you think.

What kits have you used?

How are you measuring salinity?

Thanks. I have two salifert kits and one Aquaforest. I measure salinity with a Hanna salinity tester as well as a calibrated refractometer.
