Anyone here know of a local reptile/snake lovers club? I have a couple snakes, most noteably a 2 1/2 year old mexican black kingsnake. Notable in the sense that i don't handle her much because she got bitey, and I hate getting bitten. I suppose if I handled her more she'd stop biting, but I just don't have the time or patience to rehabilitate her at this point. I'm gonna attempt to find her a new home with someone that can appreciate her personality quirks - if someone on this forum has any advice for me in this regard, it would be much appreciated.

The herpetologist at the university would probably take him , he has one of the best live collections in the area.

LOL...um guess I should have specified I meant "lovers" club as in enjoys their presence on earth, not "lovers" like meat lovers' pizza.

I'm sure I could give her to the reptile room at AC, but I've had her since she was a baby and can't stand the thought of her spending her days in a rubbermaid box waiting for someone to fork over $200-300. Her behavior issues are pretty much my fault, from lack of handling to feeding in her enclosure (a no-no) so I guess maybe I should take a month or two and retrain her. Her overall temperament is very docile, it's just that when she's being handled she presumes it's feeding time.

There is a exotics of tennessee on facebook that is tryin' to get a reptile club started I think. I love snakes. I currently have 11 total. I'm mainly interested in corn snakes. I would consider taking the king but I have actually started downsizing my collection and really don't need any more pets. I also keep all my corns in a sterilite rack. The babies are in 15qt, smaller adults in 28qt, and full grown adults are in 41qt.

My list is...

Corn Snakes

1.0 Amel
0.1 Pastel Motley
1.0 Normal (het motley)
1.0 Blizzard
1.0 Sunglow Motley
0.1 Hypo
0.1 Anery
0.1 Butter
0.1 Bloodred

I also have

0.1 7ft Dumerils Boa
1.0 Albino Western Hognose

That exotics of TN things sounds cool. After talking with one of the guys at the reptile room, I'm thinking of just donating the snake, enclosure, etc. to a school.

Just make sure whatever school gets the snake, it will be properly cared for and just not thrown in a class room to be displayed.

I used to have a Gray Banded Kingsnake and she was very tame until I quit handling her as well. I've mentioned getting another one, but the wife won't go for it...

Hmm... I spoke with someone at AC's reptile room that mentioned they get teachers in all the time to pick up snakes for classroom pets. I was just kind of assuming if they were seeking them out they'd be taking care of them, but now you've got me wondering if that's the way to go. I handled her for a bit today and she was completely calm, not even a hint of defensiveness or aggression. Maybe she senses she needs to get her act together.
