The surface skimming is silent and the grate/teeth is held on by magnets. They pop off and can be submerged in a vinegar bath to be cleaned.

It works like a bean animal/herbie drain in that there are three pipes. The main drain will have a gate valve that will run full siphon. A secondary drain will have a small amount of water and will act as a full siphon if the first one gets clogged. The third is for emergency and can also act as a full siphon if your lazy but won't take care of the first two failures :)
