Siliconed (GE I) my baffles on Friday. Ready to break in my skimmer in the next day or two.

Is there anything wrong with running my skimmer - with just that section of my sump filled with water change water - to get a head start on break in before hooking the sump up to the tank?

Would remove the bad water afterwards to one, replace with new salt water and two, avoid any contamination from three day old silicone.

I ran my skimmer in a bucket in my garage for a few days which worked well. I used tap water with 25% vinegar to help get the manufacturing oils off the skimmer. Worked great. No further break in needed.

I second that advice... plain water and vinegar for a day or two to get the manufacturing gunk out.
