Oh No, My Montis Are Touching

No big deal. Just two montis (Bright Green Monti and Tyree Flower Petal Monti) getting close to touching each other but they will work it out.

The Flower Petal Monti didn't stand a chance. Oh yeah, the montis were separated as soon as I took the picture on the 11-23-2011. The first sign of necrosis was about 1 day before than last picture was taken on 11-22-2011. I thought that they might still work it out and would do fine growing into each other. The last thing that I thought would happen is that the tyree monti would loose over 1/4 of the tissue in less than 24 hours.

I should mention that this isn't normal behavior. Most of the time, they will work it out. I'm guessing that one is a cap and the other is a similar species.

i'm worried too now, i have a la laker monti in between 2 diff tyree flower petal and bretts purple rim on top, these are my first monti's hope they're all caps?

ive got several diffrent "caps" or montis guess id better do some research before i get to much growth on some of the newer ones.. the older 3 get along just fine

Thats weird for montipora to fight like that, they generally dont do that.

I dont think they are diffirent species, but I could be mistaken, they might be, if so, that could be the issue, I think if you slowly introduce them to eachother, they will slolwy adapt, possibly graft.

I tried to put orange and green monti's together on one rock to grow a two color colony. However, the orange just murdered the green as they came together and it stood no chance. Completely bleached the green while causing little to no damage to the orange.

I have three large colonies growing near and over each other: Tyree Sunset, Tyree Setosa, and Forest Fire. Sunset beats Setosa and Forest Fire. Doesn't kill them, just grows right over them.

Ouch, guess you had a similar experience like I did.

That is defiently what I would normally expect. Still, it sucks for the setosa. Such of a nice monti to be ran over by the sunset.

I grew the tyree monti from a 1 inch frag. When this particular monti is able to grow out, it grows very evenly and round. The neon green monti is an ORA Green Capricornis.

Yeah I have had montis touch before. I have even sold frag plugs with three different montis glued to it which creates a cool look. This has to be an odd species thing... Too bad it receeded so quickly.

Here is an update of the monti. I decided not to frag the monti and just let it be. Eventually the tissue loss stopped on its own. Kind of feel sorry for the monti since the orange caps are getting close on the right side of it. I'll update again when that happens.
