Well... I was out of town for the weekend & when I returned home, one of my small Zoa frags had magically disappeared. I can't even find the small bit of rock that they had been attached to. The dumb crabs are constantly knocking things over, so I thought maybe this got knocked over as well. I moved almost all of the movable rock & was never able to find it. : (My other frag has still not opened. They're still all balled up.All parameters are normal & I did a water change when I returned home on Monday. The other frags & my two clowns are doing fine. What is up?

That is a mystery... Check them closely to make sure their are no pests like zoanthid eating nudibranchs. Hope you can find your missing frag and the others open soon.

Even with glue, I still get frags knocked off. I have a frags removing machine in my tank aka my urchin.

I think there is a magic land (sea?) where critters go live among fairies and single socks.

Yesterday afternoon after 5pm I put a small amount of Rod's Food in my 2g tank and by bed time, the yellow-tailed blue damsel had disappeared. The tank has a lid that has a hole the size of a silver dollar (remember those?). I checked my parameters today and they were pH 7.8, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0, and salinity 1.025 and everything else seems fine.

Zoas are funny... i have a few different types of them and they all seem to act differently.. last month i got 1 hockey puck sized rock with 2 different types of zoas on it. one of them can't stop growing and the other one seems to be vanishing... I have yet to figure that one out, since i don't have anything that would be eating them!

Smaller frags have also disappeared from my tank... multiple times.. whether i glue them or not!

I've always wondered where that other knee sock went...Um, your Damsel is gone? Do you have a mantis in your tank or what?! LOL! Let's hope not... but maybe the Damsel going MIA could be a good thing.

I have had the same thing happen, had a good size frag of Pink zoas and orange ones...the pinks one just...vanished where the orange ones are still doing fine. Odd thing indeed...glad I'm not the only one.

Yep, the damsel is gone and today the peppermint shrimp either died or molted. I don't know how to tell the difference. We are away camping so I stuck it in the freezer for later. I guess it will be obvious eventually if it was a molt.

The only thing that I think I need to deal with in that tank (though I am sure there are others) is the slight "oil slick" on the surface of the water. Suggestions? I think I read somewhere I could blot it with a paper towel.

Whoa... I've never heard of such a thing. What in the world is going on with your tank?! : (

If your getting an "oil slick" on the surface you need to get a pump or something to disturb it. You could have lowered oxygen levels in the tank. Disturbing the surface gives gasses a chance to exchange.

Markkazdad how is your surface agitation? I have a powerhead pointed at my water surface to create good surface agitation. It helps oxygenate the water and cuts down on the film on the surface.

I do the same thing. It is a very slim film. Less shimmery than a soap bubble in the sun. It has been that way for several weeks at least. I was guessing it was oils from fish food or waste.

Maybe I will angle it up a little more.
