Ok so this ones got me stumped! Lol [emoji23]

So I set up this tank and it was very dirty so I filled it with vinegar and just plain tap water to clean it out. Its a 125 gallon acrylic tank and a 50 gallon acrylic sump. It's been running for about 2 weeks . Every so often I'd add another 5 gallons or so of tap water for evaporation.
The tank is heated , no skimmer running, just the main pump and powerhead just to circulate.
It does have filter socks on it to catch all the nasty debris .

So I come home today and I find this! My tank looks like it's filled with diluted orange kool aid.

Also I see some big globs of orange fluffy stuff on my powerhead and some random fluff floating around. The filter socks were jammed full of this same fluffy stuff.

What is it?? [emoji848]

got any kids to possibly pour something in the tank?

Have you been dosing it with anything?

Kids are older and deny any involvement.

No dosing at all. [emoji4]

Bacteria of Alien Origin, or BAO for short.:eek:

In all seriousness... Whoa, that's weird!!! Get it out, get it out!!

Looks like a bacterial or yeast growth; nothing else can grow that quickly. It looks like whatever it could stick to is where it grew. Does it smell? What is the texture? It could be a lot of things microbial, but bacteria and yeast are the only *typical* microbes that can grow that fast.
