Ok make a case for which LED lighting I should get!

this is my dyi led over my 185. not 100% done but working. the fixture has 60 cree leds on two 48" heatsinks driven by five meanwell drivers and three t5. yes, the corals and people love it.

Check with Jeff at CoralSKY LED. WWC has the the blue actinics over their tanks and I had the white and blue reef kits over my 30g. Basically, my tank was the guinea pig, along with Jeff's personal tank, for his LEDs. He uses CREE leds. You should definitely check them out. The growth is amazing. 60 watts over my 30g tank is too much light! It is so bright. I have acros, montis, and zoas. I had a few chalice frags also, but I could never keep them looking great because there was too much light.

The advantages for me really is the heat they don't produce, and the fact my electric is way down. And that they grow sps in the gravel of a 29" deep tank.

I'm guessing thats a 48 kit 50/50 and a 12 kit all blue? how do you like the color of the 50/50 vs. the extra blue?

Reef Bright LED's all day long, look at kraylen's prop tank only one 50/50 and everything is doing great. I used 5 and love them, I even had to turn them down with the dimmer.

I would not do LEDs over such a big tank for these two reasons.

1. There are no LED fixtures on the market that I know of that can cover a 34" front to back spread.
2. Once you get to larger tanks IMO efficiency drops. You will need many more LEDs to cover the spread and intensity that a single MH (with a nice big reflector) can cover. Something like a luminarc III can do a 36x36" area. You could probably get away with 2 x 250w MHs on your tank.

Here is a pic of my tank 10' 570gal and here is my LED/T5 Light. I'm thinking of loosing the T5s as in the long run they are expensive.

If you do go LED choose CREE 3 watt their spectrum is perfect.

Anyone who is against LEDs usually has not had their hands on many... or were touching the wrong ones. I got 1 RB/30w covereing a 48x15x15 no problem.

I dont feed my RBTA but they grow like aptasia

I'm familiar with the CREE XR-E and the spectrum is perfect IMHO. Other 3 watt LEDS work just check the data sheet as others don't.

Ambiguous question.

But to simplify our demo fixture with 48 LEDs with 80 Degree optics on a 24" heatsink has 294 PAR when driven at 700mA at 24".

Basically a 250-400 watt MH at 122 watts!!!
