Okay this might be an odd question but...

I am an extreme newbie to fish.. of course I talk to my only fish, a betta...Rooster appears to respond to my voice and I have been using the same commands to get him to follow my pinched fingers to carry his food to his lil tank.. can fish hear? Sorry stupid question, but he appears to respond to my voice via flapping his fins faster..or is he just used to seeing the fish food container ........

Fish get used to a routine and learn to know what means food. When I used an automatic feeder on a cichlid tank the fish learned the timing so well that they would be waiting for the food in tight group within about 2 minutes of the feeding.

Yeah, it likely makes the association to the food, but fish definitely hear.

They can hear but I think it's a food response. I hit feed mode on my Vortecs before feeding (greatly reduces the PH speed). Everytime I do every fish in the tank goes nuts, swims around like mad for a few seconds and then gather at the right side of the tank. I hadn't even realized I always start feeding on the right side till I noticed their behavior. Fish can also definitely learn.

Rooster has cute eyes..he appears to stare me down when it is time to eat and flaps his fins alot..he does appear to respond to my voice too..or maybe it's just my scary oversized eye thru my glasses! Dunno..HAHA!!
