I thought I would do a post on the flow in my 300g DD tank using an Oceans Motions 4way. The technology isn't new but has been squashed but more plug-and-play technoloigies.

I had votech mp40's on my previous 120g and I didn't like the whirr. A huge goal with my 300g tank with garage sump was dead silence and low in-tank profile. I choose the Oceans motions for $499.

The basic concept of the OM is you run it inline with return or closed loop pumps. The device has an internal barrel that it rotated at 1rpm via an electric motor. There are different barrel designs providing different flow patterns to 4 outlets. I chose version 1, seen here http://www.oceansmotions.com/store/...id=32&osCsid=6bb7e31e70415713a973210fcbe900f2

I designed my rockscape to work with the OM rather then run countless numbers of nozzels and locline inside the tank. I also made flow eductors that were covered by rock.

anyway, here come the pics. I will include video at the end for better explantion.

closed loop plumbing. far left and right. 1 1/2 inch bulkheads t'd off to a single 2 inch and out the the garage and reeflow barracuda.

The OM device. the 4 outlets terminate in the bottom 4 corners of the DT.

View of sump room. closed loop and OM seen in background along with rest of tank plumbing.

Plumbing under the tank. I chose flex-pvc to limit the amount of flow-limiting sharp angles.

flow eductors seen left and right rear, nozzles front left and right. the rock work begins.

note how there is plenty of room behind rocks. return flow also directed at bare bottom behind rock. will be front only sand.

end result and tank at 6 months.

Thanks for reading!
Kevin.

Wow amazing filter room!
Also you have my favorite fish in there.
The banner fish are my all time favorite and yours even school together.
Soo awesome
Also one of my friends has a 210 with the dart pump and also doesn't have to have any power heads Bc of the awesome and random flow they put out.
Great build

I used an om on my 120 gallon tank. Great piece of hardware

Roy, I remember you telling me about it when I was still on the fence about it. It turned to be better than expected! I don't have anything that could be even considered a dead spot, including caves.

Great thread.

I wish a OM was in my budget for my new tank. But I've gone far over what I told the wife it would be.
Was looking at maybe a super squirt.

I'd hold off on the Super Squirt and find a 4-way Marty. I owned a SS and have been up close and personal with more than one 4-way and know that you will be unsatisfied with the cheaper model.

Kevin, how is the super quiet display tank working out for you? Since building a remote tank room my wife has been much happier with my reef tank. She tolerates the powerheads in my display in the name of saving electricity. She was happier with my Reeflo Hammerhead. If I had the $$$ I'd trade in my Jebao's for another pair of Tunze's to make my display dead silent. There will always be the sound of a return pump throughout the house though.

Actually it is me that is pleased with the silence and it is awesome! I was in freshwater just 3 short years ago and at one time had 7 tanks above 50g ( see pics below) I sold all tanks and kept the 120g sps/lps and the 65g softy in the cubby, but got rid of it too when doing the 300g. this is my first experience with a quiet tank, late at night with no tv etc you can still tell there is water movement and the occasional slap of a fish tail sometimes too. but yeah I used to cringe when the mp-40's would ramp up on the old 120g.

This was first to be sold.

after the 120p with 50g fuge was started, then the 125g african cichlid tank in the background was sold.

2 other tanks in background were sold.

last pics I took of the 120g before the pink long tentacle plate went rtn and crashed my tank. ( the irony that I was in the middle of the 300g build when it crashed)

The 65g softy before selling.
