I have about 60 pounds of live rock that I need to clean off for a new tank that I want to start fresh with dry rock. I have rinsed it, soaked it in tap water and dried it. I heard it's good to also do a hydronic peroxide soak. Anyone done this before? I want to make sure EVERYTHING is off these rocks.

probably setting it out somewhere inside to thoroughly dry as rock adsorbs A LOT of water otherwise sounds good

hello Bella, did the old rock belong to to you? Or did Ya get from somewhere else ? Please consider soaking it in new saltwater for a couple of weeks & testing for nutrients . Nitrates & phosphates .
I don't know how much time You have or how much of a hassle it would be. The choice is up to You ! :)

You could even cook the rock (not boil). Then soak in salt water as cracker said. You can soak at a lower salinity than you typically run. If you just washed and dried, also put in saltwater and test for ammonia, no2/3, and maybe phosphates. You want to make sure there is nothing dying off that can leech into the water.

Thanks Scott, I'm concerned about nutrients trapped in the rock it's self. Old & particularly new dry rock. In my experience , it causes a bunch of issues down the road .

I’ve been down that road before ;Blackeye But there may be things in the rock that are dying off as well. Also some live ones too. Gorilla crabs can survive days and days out of the water. Not that soaking in saltwater will catch them.

I took this rock out of an old tank of mine. I am about to set up a new tank but i want to use Dry rock and sand so there is No Hitch Hikers...

I need a bigger bucket to soak for a few weeks for testing.
