Need a bit of advice. The lfs isn't going to be importing any live rock anytime soon. They have old live rock in their sumps they said they'd sell to me. I also found another lfs that had dry rock made of an unknown material. Looked ok. I've used before "Real Reef" rock and liked it but I must transport it a ways. I'm wondering if I should do a mix to cycle the tank or just stick with one. I'm partial to real reef as I had good luck with it before. Thoughts?

I personally like live rock, but since you have had good experiences with Real Reef that is what I'd go with, particularly if it has more attractive shapes than the sump rock. In the long run I don't think the type of rock used makes a significant difference (unless it leaches phosphates, etc.) especially if you start your cycle correctly.

Turned out a lfs had life rock from CaribSea. Cost more than anticipated. All installed and looking good for cycling. The rock looks good and lots of holes for coral plugs.
