Got a question about some live rock. I've got a good bit of old Live Rock that has been in my yard for a while. It's from my old tank, good structure and it's even still purple. My question is, is it good to use still? What would I need to do to put this in my current reef. Any chance of any sort of bacteria or negative impact on my current reef. If so I'll just buy some rock from my LFS, but if it's viable to put this old rock to use I would love to do so.

Your going to have to clean and cure it before you add it. I recently found some old rock myself and have been contemplating adding it, but not sure its worth the time. If you add it without curing itll cause your tank to go through another cycle.

If exposed to the elements such as rain then I would go with new rock, or a muriatic acid bath at the least.

I would use it without a second thought. I mean if it had been dosed with insect repellent or weed killer that is a different story.

muriatic acid bath...cure in rodi for 2 weeks or so, then cycle the rocks in salt water for a few weeks with weekly new water before adding them to the main display tank. I usually use the water from water changes to cure the rocks. Just be sure the water doesnt have high phosphate and nitrates.
