Welcome rit6942,
Sounds like you can add alot of expertise here.
Help when you can.

Yeah hopefully i can lend a hand where needed........right now in process of redoing this 50g tank........had terrible lighting......plumbing........filtration.......temporarily upgrading it now till its integrated into the house system.........heres a few pics of it......but with new experimental light installed already......

Welcome to R2R! Looking forward to seeing more about your build and of course any advice along the way.

A lil more about me and how i build set up and run reeftanks....etc.....

Lighting.........metal halide.......still king........but i do love the dimmable point source kessil lights.......from my experience with it an a360x is equal to a 150 hqi or 175 watt mogul radium bulb in par/pur value roughly.

Pumps.....prefer high pressure high flow external pumps.......the higher the tank turnover......the better. I always shoot for a minimum of a 20x per hour turnover rate on display tank. The new dc pumps intrigue me though......trying a COR 20 on this lil 50g.........

Skimming........i always heavily oversize my skimmer systems with OZONE injection..........i feed heavy regularly my tanks.

Refugium.......a must.........with deep sandbed live rock and multiple nitrate reducing algaes.......my refugiums are basically modified turf scrubbers

Filer socks.......filter sponges.....floss........whatever you wanna call em.........never ever run them. I use bioballs as my mechanical/bubble partition sparingly......and never need to clean em.

Dosing.......chemicals....coral dips....copper.....coral "food".....additives etc........i dont do em........never have needed to.......waste of $ imo. I do run a calcium reactor though.

Water changes..........dont do em.........unless emergency situation requires it........one of my tanks over 20 years old......1 water change was done due to plumbing issue/leak.

Feeding........load em up......3x a day minimum.
