Hello! New guy to your forum here. I've been in the hobby since the late 80's and still enjoy it as much as when I started. There's been several tanks over the years, a few moves, a few total crashes but somehow still going! Current tank is a 180 I set up about 11 years ago, focused on sps for many years. I had a major blow about 5 years ago with the sps and have gravitated more to nems and lps/softies since that episode. Fits my available time and lifestyle much better now. Lot's of DIY with my set up and try to keep things as simple as possible. My name is Dave, and I'm a reefaholic!

Welcome to R2R and thanks for joining.

I am an old reefer from the 80s also.

Welcome home, you will love it here!

Post some pics! :)

I'll try to get some current pics over the weekend, but here are a few of the Maple stand I made and some of how she used to look back in my sps days. All of the equipment is the same today with lots of fish, just no sticks!

Beautiful reef and mad woodworking skills. I bet having an SPS crash in that tank was extremely disappointing. It was beautiful while it lasted. I am sure it is still awesome though.

Your SPS tank was amazing.. Unfortunately, this hobby has too much "trial and error" and a learning curve.. It took me years to understand fish disease, livestock, aquascaping, placement of corals, and pest... When I was a new hobbyist I tended to add corals/fish that only look good without knowing how it will do in my tank.

Can you share some of the obstacles you faced and biggest lesson you've learned in this hobby? Especially for SPS reef

Fin, thank you very much. Yes it was devastating, and happened very fast! Unaware that the local water company started adding chloramine to our water. Started having massive RTN one day, within a week all of those colonies were bone white... and yes I did have one BRS chloramine buster cartridge on my RO set up. There were multiple crashes in our area at the same time on our local forum. Fickle finger of fate...
