Hi All!
My tank is probably 12+ years old and has the same 1-1/2" aragonite sand bed. Never been much of a sand cleaner, either. Well upgrading my power heads to Vortechs has made my sand move all over the place. I've decided to change out my sand for a courser grain, hoping it stays put, mostly.

Here is my stupid question...
What do you do with your old sand? How should I dispose of it?
I siphoned out about a third of it and dumped it in the driveway and washed it to the street. I live in a beach town, and the city uses salt/sand for snow treatment, so I figured it's ok. But it's too much sand sitting on the street. Any suggestions? FWIW, I have a 65 gal tank. Probably 40lbs sand...
Thanks!
Brian

INTO NEIGHBORS YARD

Give it a good wash and store it for reuse or offer it up cheap (free) to some newbie reefer who thinks sand is a big expense. I had 4 tanks (350+ gallons) and I've downsized to just 1 (40g cube). I cleaned all my old sand, used some in the cube and have two 6g buckets full of clean, dry sand sitting in the garage with lids on them. Who knows when I'll get stupid again and go for a bigger tank!?!? ;Facepalm

If you just want to get rid of it, sprinkle it around in the yard. It won't do any harm. But some young reefer on a tight budget will curse you for not just giving it away!
