I bought a used set up with rock very similar to some pieces you have. What makes it so special?! I’m just a couple years into reefing so I don’t know much about old school rock!

Some of it is from the ocean, theres even coral colony skeletons mixed in. Its illegal in most regions to take pieces like these anymore.

Now THATS real reef rock!!! It is illegal to collect now because I think some people were like blowing up reefs then collecting the rock? I think it’s being aquacultured now because as corals naturally grow, die, calcify, etc the reef produces rock like this in excess. I believe it’s still legal around Tonga and the Philippines but I could be wrong

I believe it’s all banned for collection :(

Here's my outdoor reef, couple pieces of Fiji and coral skeletons. I have some bigger slabs of Haitian rock outside, but most other old rock is still in service. I have a piece of Fiji in my tank that bought in 2000 and pieces of Bahama rock that I picked up off the beach in the 1980's.
