I was wondering if anyone has any old photos of their reef tanks... something earlier than 1996 (i.e. pre-internet, pre-digital camera days).

Here's my contribution:

XENIA.JPG

The above was taken around 1989 with a Nikon 35mm in my 75gal reef tank. The tank was lit by 6 "VHO" florescent bulbs. I had twin protein skimmers (4" PVC with limewood airstone) flowing counter current (air going up, water going down), a 10 gal fuge with caulerpa, an empty 20gal sump (heater, carbon, return pump and ATO switch). Dosing kalkwasser from a DIY acrylic container on a timer and float switch (pushed by air pressure from an airpump). Water water topoff was RODI. Floss for mechanical filtration (in the overflow). Build based on advice from FAMA and Julian Sprung articles, along with books from the library!

Here is a couple of my 1980’s reefs, both probably taken with crapy disposable 35mm.

first is old school saltwater tank with under gravel filtration from early 80’s..

My first real Reef Tank started mid 80’s, this picture is probably from around 1989..
