I’ve had a sixline wrasse for a good bit now, and when I got him he was very big and fat. He is now almost a good 4 inches long and still very fat, but now he is acting weird. He is moving very slow around in the sand bed when usually he is all energetic and darting around the rocks. He is still eating, breathing fine, and shows no sign of any parasite. There has been no new additions to the tank at all, the last one being him. I’m guessing he is just dying of age? Is this normal for old fish? Any ideas would help.

I have had him for around 7-8 months in my tank, but the lfs I bought him at said that he was and old fish and they have had him for a while, don’t know how long they have had him though.

If I’m not mistaken they live for 3-4 years.
I knew they could live for a few years but I don’t know what else could be wrong with him. I’m guessing he was just old when I got him, but I don’t know for sure.

Well unfortunately he just passed. No signs of any disease or anything.

I've had mine 8 years and it was a good size when I got it. I think these type of wrasse are much longer lived than flashers or fairy wrasse that do seem to live only 3-5 years, or maybe I'm just lucky.

If it was old age I think you would likely have seen a loss of condition over a period of time rather than a fairly quick death. Tbh there is probably something that went on which could of just been natural for that fish and it was simply it's time. Fish can get tumours and other ailments we don't see or die from things we'd never notice unless we were experts in fish necropsy.

Do you think he had a cardiac event? I'm torn between saying I'm sorry and you did an awesome job with him!

Approaching lifespan but has no significance if it is eating. Try small pellets and meaty foods to see if it regains mass and I assume still eating well ?
