I setup my EAReefPro 900S yesterday and rather than buying a new skimmer I purchased a Bubble Magus Curve 5 from eBay. From the first switch on it has been overflowing constantly I set it at the recommended height of 8" and set the dial to Max but it still happens. From other posts I lifted it to 5" and it's still the same. I'm aware that a new skimmer needs to break in but i thought a second hand skimmer wouldn't have any of these issues. If this is normal do I need to remove the skimmate or let it run back in to the tank? I don't want to cause a loop where the skimmer is removing the waste and i'm putting it back.

I'm new to reefing and this is my first tank.

Thanks in advance

I would pull it out and run some vinegar through it, just in case there was anything foreign that had dried and was left behind. Another thing you can do which has helped me immensely in the past, is put a bag of carbon in the sump somewhere out of the water, and let the output from the skimmer run through it.

You over flowing with water or bubbles?

After some research i think it's down to the rock, sand and water being new and the skimmer trying to remove the waste. I've ordered some carbon which i'll run the skimmate through to see if it makes a difference rather than a large water change. If the carbon doesn't work i'll be changing the water in 10% increments.

If anyone else has any suggestions let me know
