11/24/17 Abandon Ship! Breaking down Evo to move into an IM Lagoon.


Hello,

My name is Charles and I'm new to reefing. I started cycling the Evo over a month ago and in the last week just started adding live stock. Like many, I was not happy with the stock equipment and upgraded dang near everything. In hind sight I kinda wish I had gone for something like the Innovative Marine 20 peninsula, however i'm pretty happy for now. I hope to add some more coral in the next month and possibly a Goby/shrimp pair next month. All my live stock and most all the advice I've gotten is from a great LFS, Diablo Corals here in the Bay Area. I've been fortunate to have them so close. Anyways onto the goods, here's the list.

Agra-Alive black sand
14lbs of medium sized Real Reef Rock

Fluval Evo 13.5

Fulaval PS2 - I know this item gets a lot of flack, but i've had lots of good luck with it. After a 1 week break in period it had been running and skimming perfectly.

Intank Media Basket - Purigen ,Chemipure and Filter Floss in Chamber 1
- Chamber 2 was converted into a refugium with Cheato and an LED grow light

Live Stock
2x Trochus Snail
2x Astraea Snail
2x Davinci Clown Fish

Purple Torch
Green with Purple tipped Octo/Fragspawn
Pink Acan

It's been a great experience thus far, my favorite is that in the last day or so the Torch has been hosting one of the clowns.

How do you have it set up? I was thinking about setting one up in mine.

Very nice start and welcome to R2R. We set up the same nano for my mom. I'm amazed at can grow in that tank with just a current led light.

I just used 3M double sided tape and stuck it right on the side. The light itself is on a timer, 0800-2000 everyday.

Yes! It’s a great little light. I’m looking forward to the Bluetooth module. I recently swooped on a used Kessil A80 to supplement the lack of blue in the orbit. I’m already looking at moving it all into a lagoon 25 or something similar and selling the Evo haha

New update. I picked up a pretty little hammer coral from a local reefer and added in a power supply management system to make my life a little easier.

I almost bought the current fixture but, ended up getting the ai prime hd. Mainly b/c I’m aiming for sps dominant system.

I’ve upgraded as well, I ended up ordering a Kessil A80 from my LFS.

This tank will be getting the axe in about a week. Hind sight 20/20 I wish I had done a little more research. I realized last week that I had upgraded everything that came with the tank, the last of the oem was the tank itself. In addition I feel that Ive already run out of space for what I wanted to accomplish. So I found a buyer, a buddy of mine who will be taking the kit and most of what I bought for it. I wanted something bigger, but not too big. I was pretty much deciding between an IM Lagoon 25 or 50. After lots of thought I choose the 25, maintenance wise it fits my lifestyle much better. I work management level at a theme park, so my hours vary greatly and I travel quite a bit. Anyhow, I'm planning this move now, wishing I had just gone with a larger size, 13.5 gallons of real estate disappears quick. New thread coming soon.

Soooooo I ended up with a Lagoon 25 today. Black Friday saved a lot of $$. I still wish I knew what I know now,3 months ago when I was 1st shopping. Up side, I’m making some money back on the initial set up. Anyhow, I set it up dry tonight. As you can see I was able to fit the tunze in without moving the magnet, I simply used the included spacer to get the clearance I needed. I got everything in where I wanted. Just need to figure out the powerhead situation. Someone sell me an mp10 lol

I’m planning to make the move from the Evo into the Lagoon on Friday. Any advice is welcome. I plan to move my live rock and 50% mix of new and old Agra-alive black sand. Then once the tank settles moving the coral and fish back in.

I am in love with the dimensions on the tank and can foresee running it for a very long time. Updates to come, a Happy Thanksgiving all!

I hope everyone got the Black Friday items of their dreams! I made the move into the Lagoon on BF, the fish seem to be happy in their new home. I skipped BF with the exception of a Purple Firefish from our LFS, Diablo Corals in Concord,CA. I also got a little too crazy on some online coral shopping, but more on that next week. As soon as the other Kessil appears this week Ill show off a bit more
