I agree with all of that, well done well done. nice pipe clog demo

one fascinating addition, that clog had nitrifiers in it :) even if was chlorinated water that's so amazing. that amount of biosludge has proteins, and where degrading proteins go so do nitrifiers and myriad non nitrifying bacteria all in tow as one big filth pocket. OTS is about detritus and bacteria, agreed, and amazingly the old tanks are addressing those two either directly or indirectly. your RUGF is a direct insult to detritus sinking.

Great read Paul. How do you work the power washer angle when you cover every inch of Rock with coral? LOL I use a baster to get where I can but it is incredibly difficult as I way over packed my tank.

Wiz, it is getting harder and harder to do this maintenance, but I get where I can. I am sure the health of my tank is declining because I can't get to the places I used to before.

Brandon, my wife tells me our house was built in 1951. That's how long it took that 2" pipe to clog like that.

MCMC, yes, I am 114 years old, but I look 35.

MCMC, I write on my computer screen in crayon and a little while later an out of work Supermodel comes over and types what I drew on the screen.

Retro Reefer. You probably am old.

"Where I can" is extremely limited. Hope its not too detrimental :-(

Great write up, it does make sense to do this. I will keep this in mind definitely

Thanks paul!

Wiz, the bacteria don't care if you can do it or not as they have no sense of humor. If you can't clean out the pores, the bacteria will just have to go on vacation. And your tank may only last for 30 or 40 years. What can I tell you?
Many of the types of corals you keep look like they can just be lifted off the rock for a few moments while you blast the rock under them.
The problem ones are things like these gonopora's which grow across the rocks so you can't move them. Bubbles, torches and hammars can just be lifted. It is a necessary evil and only should be done yearly or twice a year. We do what we can.:D

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I always enjoy reading your posts....I wish I were as whitty :)

I could but I figured I would put everything that pops into my head in one place and that seemed the logical place as it is not like a normal fish forum, but just a place to post articles :D

Thank you Tweeter. I am not that Whitti, just a big mouth
